"We bought a house last year. It's a beautiful house but it's bare, we can't personalize it. Our bedroom has an irregular shape and we don't know where to place the bed. We can't find the space for the wardrobe. Even the living room just doesn't work. There is a very long wall that we don't know how to organize and we need a space dedicated to our 4 year old daughter. The kitchen counter is always full of stuff that creates a lot of mess. We need a pantry but have no idea what style to choose. We also have many other small jobs to do to make our home more tidy and welcoming but we don't know how to organize ourselves. You can help us?"
Even C&D, as in many other cases, arrive at the first meeting with a long list of work to do on their home. They feel lost because they don't know where to start.
I work directly with them with a targeted interview and some really interesting elements emerge, such as the divergence in feeling the couple's home. For him a nest in which to take refuge, for her a place to leave in the morning and return in the evening.
First we identified the priorities, i.e. pantry to reorganize the kitchen and remove the "stall effect" as D calls it, and reorganization of the bedroom. We then worked on the style and finally on the arrangement of the furnishings. In this C&D they were very collaborative because I suggested they test my proposals by moving the furniture and they accepted.
For the living room I proposed creating various spaces while maintaining a single environment. For the bedroom I proposed moving the bed, freeing up the space between the windows and placing a small wardrobe next to the windows. By doing so we completely freed the inclined wall without underlining the shape of the room.
C&D identified their style and, after selecting some suppliers for them, they found the one that was right for them. At that point it was just a matter of choosing between various solutions that they liked. For C&D, it was a relief to have an organized pantry. Furthermore, thanks to the reflections we made together, they identified the type of wardrobe that was right for them not only as furniture but as part of their daily routine.
